Draw

West Ham have only won two of their eight Premier League games this season, with Julen Lopetegui’s side having been heavily defeated in a 4-1 loss at London rivals Tottenham last weekend.

Manchester United claimed a much-needed win against Brentford in their last top-flight match, but followed that with a disappointing 1-1 draw at Fenerbahce, which leaves them still searching for a first win in the Europa League.

Team news

Mohammed Kudus is suspended for West Ham after his sending off against Spurs, while Niclas Fullkrug remains a major doubt.

Antony was stretchered off against Fenerbahce and will join the injured Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo on the sidelines for the Red Devils.

Jonny Evans and Mason Mount are doubts having missed the trip to Turkey, but Bruno Fernandes is available again, having served a European suspension.

The stats

Julen Lopetegui is under increasing pressure with West Ham having won only two of their first eight games

West Ham won their last home game in the Premier League against Ipswich, after losing the previous three this season.

Publicidad

Five of Manchester United’s last seven matches have ended as draws.

West Ham have conceded in each of their last seven games.

The Red Devils have won only one of their six away games across all competitions, drawing four and losing one.

Prediction

This very much looks like a game that neither West Ham nor Manchester United can afford to lose.

The Hammers are in the more precarious position, though they can point to a tough start to the season, having already been beaten by leading contenders such as Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Spurs.

Lopetegui is under pressure, with the Spaniard struggling to get any consistency from a talented squad that has been in poor form since the start of this year, long before his reign started.

In the opposite dugout, Erik ten Hag finds himself under similar pressure, with four successive away draws contributing to a situation where Manchester United are badly underperforming in both the Premier League and in Europe.

The visitors have the extra quality, but that has generally been the case when they have dropped points this season and home advantage could be enough to see West Ham claim a share of the spoils.
