- Tottenham have made it past the FA Cup third round 17 times in the last 18 seasons
- Both teams have scored in 15 of Tottenham's 20 league matches this term
- Recommended Bet: Tottenham to win and both teams to score

Tottenham finished 2023 on a high note, beating Bournemouth 3-1 in the Premier League to narrow the gap between them and the Champions League places to a solitary point.

But attention turns to the FA Cup this weekend – a competition Spurs have won on eight occasions, although the most recent of those triumphs was in 1991.

The competition could be a welcomed distraction for Burnley, meanwhile, with Vincent Kompany's men staring down the barrel of relegation from the Premier League.

Team news

Tottenham will be without Heung-min Son, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma, who are at the Asian Cup and Africa Cup of Nations, while Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ryan Sessegnon, James Maddison, Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic all remain sidelined.

Dejan Kulusevski, however, should return for Spurs after serving a one-match ban.

Luca Koleosho, Hjalmar Ekdal, Jack Cork and Jordan Beyer are all sidelined for Burnley, who will also be missing the suspended Sander Berge.

The stats

Burnley have lost 15 of their 20 games in the Premier League this season and lost four of their seven matches in December.

Both teams have scored in ten of Tottenham's last 11 league matches and the reverse fixture against Burnley in September finished 5-2 in favour of the north London club.

Tottenham's Premier League fixtures this season have featured an average of 3.55 goals per game.

Prediction

The last month of 2023 was a turbulent one for Tottenham, who recorded wins against Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Everton and Bournemouth, drew with Manchester City and lost to West Ham and Brighton.

There were, however, more positives than negatives for Ange Postecoglou's men, who are only six points off top spot in the Premier League standings.

Spurs have not lifted a major trophy since 2008 when they won the League Cup so a Wembley triumph could be high on Postecoglou's agenda.

The Australian boss is likely to field as strong a team as possible given they are up against Premier League opponents in Burnley, although Postecoglou's options are limited by injuries and international duty.

Heung-min Son is set to link up with South Korea at the Asian Cup and Spurs are light at the back with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both sidelined.

They should, however, have enough to see off a Burnley team who have lost 15 of their 20 league fixtures this season and lost to Spurs 5-2 at Turf Moor earlier in the season.

Tottenham look a solid selection to progress to the fourth round, but they have been leaking goals in the absence of key defenders and a determined Burnley could get on the scoresheet in defeat.
