Manchester United have been blessed with some magnificent No7s over the years.

The iconic shirt has been worn by some of the best players to have ever graced Old Trafford.

We take a look back at United's seven greatest No7s.

7. Johnny Berry (1951-1958)

One of the original Busby Babes, Johnny Berry was signed from Birmingham for £25,000 in 1951.

The pint-sized right winger was blessed with pace and helped the Red Devils to win three First Division titles.

Berry was involved in the Munich air disaster in 1958. Though he survived, the injuries he sustained ended his football career. He played 277 games for United, scoring 44 goals.

6. Steve Coppell (1975-1983)

Another flying right winger who wore the No7 for United was Steve Coppell.

Born and raised in Liverpool, he was signed from Tranmere in 1975 and quickly made his way into Tommy Docherty's first team, exciting the fans with his pace and dribbling ability.

Coppell still holds the record for the most consecutive appearances for an outfield United player with 207 games from 1977 to 1981. In total, he played 373 times, scoring 70 goals.

5. David Beckham (1992-2003)

Our third consecutive right winger was not of the flying variety. David Beckham's game was built upon his astonishing crossing ability and industry.

Part of United's Class of 92, the Londoner broke into Alex Ferguson's team in 1995 and became a vital member of a hugely successful side.

By the time he left for Real Madrid in 2003, Beckham had helped the Red Devils to win six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a Champions League triumph.

4. Bryan Robson (1981-1994)

Bryan Robson was captain of Manchester United and England

United broke the British transfer record in 1981 to sign Bryan Robson from West Brom, paying £1.5million for the midfielder.

He would become the club's longest-serving skipper and was the figurehead during some tough times under Ron Atkinson and the initial barren years of the Ferguson reign.

Robson's fearless, all-action style resulted in many injuries but he still played 461 games for United, scoring 99 goals.

3. Eric Cantona (1992-1997)

Ferguson's greatest signing has to be Eric Cantona, who was poached from Leeds in 1992 when the Yorkshire club enquired about the availability of Denis Irwin.

Having lost the title race from their rivals from across the Pennines the previous season, Cantona was instrumental in United winning the first Premier League in 1992-93.

Cantona was both a creator and scorer of goals, inspiring Ferguson's side for five seasons in which they won four league titles and two FA Cups.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo (2003-2009 and 2021-2022)

When Beckham left in 2003, new signing Cristiano Ronaldo inherited the No7 shirt.

Arriving as an audaciously talented but erratic teenager, he grew into the most important member of Ferguson's team.

He scored 118 goals in 292 games, winning three Premier League titles and the Champions League among other honours.

Ronaldo returned to the club in 2021 and was given the No7 once more. During a difficult period for United, he added another 27 goals in 54 appearances.

1. George Best (1963-1974)

George Best was the greatest according to Pele

We have literally saved the Best for last. Belfast boy George made his Manchester United debut at 17 and is arguably the most gifted player to have represented the club.

Described by none other than Pele as the greatest he had ever seen, the winger was famed for his dribbling ability and had an all-round talent that has rarely been witnessed.

Two league titles and a European Cup may not have been the trophy haul his quality deserved. But those who saw Best play maintain he was aptly named.
