Manchester United vs Everton predictions: Hojlund can be main man for Amorim
- United are yet to lose under Ruben Amorim (W1, D1)
- Everton have failed to score in either of their last two away matches
- Recommended bet: Rasmus Hojlund to score at any time
After coming from behind to defeat Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night, it is back to domestic action for Manchester United, who host struggling Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Red Devils will be hoping to improve upon their unconvincing home record in the Premier League this season, with the hosts winning only three of their six league matches at the Theatre of Dreams, scoring just seven goals in the process.
The visitors, meanwhile, are on a four-match winless run in the top flight and, while they may have secured draws in three of those, they have managed just one goal in over a month and could struggle to trouble United.
Team news
Ruben Amorim will be without four first-team defenders for Sunday’s meeting with the Toffees, with Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans all remaining on the treatment table.
However, both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are available for selection after lengthy lay-offs, while Diogo Dalot, Casemiro and Marcus Rashford will all be hoping for starts after coming off the bench in Europe during the week.
Sean Dyche also has a quartet of absentees affecting his squad selection in the form of Seamus Coleman, Tim Iroegbunam, James Garner and Youssef Chermiti.
Albanian striker Armando Broja could feature in some capacity as he nears a return to full fitness after an Achilles problem, while Beto — the last Everton player to score in the Premier League — will be hoping to usurp Dominic Calvert-Lewin to start up top.
The stats
United have scored at least twice in each of their last three home matches in all competitions.
Everton last took all three points at Old Trafford back in 2013.
The Red Devils have won their last two home meetings with the Toffees to nil.
United are on a six-match unbeaten run at Old Trafford across all competitions.
Only Brentford and Southampton have scored fewer goals away from home in the Premier League than Everton’s five this season.
The Toffees are the joint lowest scorers in the Premier League, netting just 10 times.
Prediction
While United have improved under Amorim, given their struggles this season and Everton’s recent form, a win in this Sunday contest is far from a sure thing.
The goalscorer market may therefore provide the best punting option and Rasmus Hojlund could be one to watch out for.
The former Atalanta star scored a brace in the 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt — his first goals since October’s 2-1 triumph over Brentford — and he should be provided with quality service from the likes of Bruno Fernandes.
Hojlund will fancy his chances of breaking past an Everton side that last kept a clean-sheet at Old Trafford over 10 years ago.
