There was a hint of good fortune about the way in which NEW REALITY made a winning start over hurdles at Perth last month as the ex-Jim Bolger inmate was two lengths behind main market rival Aliomaana going to the final flight where that one departed.
They were a long way clear of the others, however, and the very easy manner of that one's maiden success at the Scottish circuit since suggests it would have rated a good effort, even in defeat.
Nigel Hawke's charge is penalised now but may be good enough to defy it among these.
LiveScore selection: New Reality
2.13pm - Mary Lofthouse Supporting Spinal Research Novices' Chase (2m)
Fourth in the Champion Bumper of 2020 at Cheltenham, THIRD TIME LUCKI was forward in the early part of last season, winning three of his first four attempts over timber by Boxing Day.
He ran well in defeat behind Belfast Banter in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham in March and was then fourth behind the same rival in a Grade 1 Aintree novice on his final start.
Dan and Harry Skelton's charge underwent a wind op in the summer and, given he scored impressively on his hurdles bow last season, he should be ready and able to do likewise now sent novice chasing.
LiveScore selection: Third Time Lucki
2.48pm - Micky Hammond 'Back On Track' Novices' Hurdle (2m3½f)
Glencassley was useful in bumpers and got his hurdles career off to a seamless beginning when scoring at Southwell (2m, good) in May, but he has a penalty to contend with on his first start since.
A Cheltenham Festival-winning chaser in 2019, Siruh Du Lac has run only three times since and failed to complete in any of those, but David Pipe's 8YO has the class to be a massive threat if anywhere near his best now hurdling.
CARDANO, by contrast, was rated 100 at best on the Flat and is race fit.
Ian Williams' charge could be a smart recruit to this sphere and is taken to shine first time up.
LiveScore selection: Cardano
3.58pm - Bridges Modular New Entrance Building Handicap Hurdle (3m)
He has been off since February but the fact that FLIGHT DECK has twice won after layoffs before ensures he can be expected to arrive here with his game-face on.
Jonjo O'Neill's challenger scored at Newbury in February on his handicap hurdles bow.
He was not see again until an ill-fated chasing attempt at Huntingdon in this month last year, but he rebounded from that with a Bangor hurdles success in January.
He tackled this sort of trip at Ascot in February and was a good fourth in what was a hot race.
Cheekpieces are added here and there could be plenty more to come at this distance.
LiveScore selection: Flight Deck
5.05pm - Watch Racing TV Anywhere Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle (2m)
A product of the Colin Bowe production line of Irish point winners, TOMMY'S OSCAR would win four of seven starts last season after finishing second in a Newcastle bumper on his rules bow in November.
His final start was a good third in the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr (2m, good) in April.
He goes well fresh and his weight burden here is eased by William Shanahan taking 5lb off, which may help sway things his way.
