Leeds held out for a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa at Elland Road despite being reduced to 10 men after Luis Sinisterra was sent off.

The first half was a fiery, even affair, with Rodrigo looking particularly threatening — but both sides lacked composure in front of goal.

Leeds were a man down soon after the restart as Sinisterra was shown a second yellow card for failing to retreat 10 yards following a Villa free-kick.

However, Villa were unable to capitalise on the man advantage and — despite testing Illan Meslier on several occasions — the spoils were ultimately shared.

Leeds captain Liam Cooper insisted the Whites deserved a point for their battling performance.

He said: "The sending off changed the game. When the referee gives a booking so early, it sets the standard of what a booking is.

"It was stop-start but it was about managing that and not getting beaten so the boys can be proud of a good shift.

"We train with a man down so that came in useful today. We obviously didn't have as much possession as we'd like with 10 men but the boys dug in."

Villa's Ashley Young, meanwhile, reflected on the positives despite failing to claim victory.

He said: "When you play against 10 men and create the chances we do and can't score, it does feel like a disappointment not claiming all three points. But when you come to a place like this and walk away with a point, it's a good point.

"I think we had 12 entries into the box and 19 shots but that's the disappointment. It's hostile here and walking away with a point, we'll look back on it as a good point.

"Everyone thinks it's easy when a team goes down to 10 men but we created chances and couldn't get the ball in the back of the net."

Leeds remain unbeaten at Elland Road in the league so far this season (two wins, two draws) — just the third time they have avoided defeat in each of their first four Premier League home games of a campaign.

Villa have been involved in 106 goalless draws in the Premier League, more than any other side in the competition’s history.

Since the start of last season, only Everton (six) have been shown more Premier League red cards than Leeds (four). Additionally, Villa have seen their opponents receive 16 red cards in the competition since their return in 2019-20, more than any other side.

Young (37 years, 85 days) became the oldest player to create five or more chances in a single Premier League game since Paul Scholes against QPR in April 2012 (five — 37 years 144 days).
