Ipswich earned the crucial 2-1 win at Coventry in midweek to put them within a point of back-to-back promotions and a return to the Premier League after more than two decades away.

Their fate is in their own hands, but there will be tension in the air even if opponents Huddersfield are all but doomed to the drop after a rotten run of form.

Team news

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna hopes to have Wes Burns (hamstring) and Leif Davis (ankle) available for selection, while Harry Clarke has a knee problem.

Publicidad

First-choice centre-back Tom Lees will be missing for the visitors.

The stats

Ipswich are the Championship’s top scorers with 90 goals scored, while only rock-bottom Rotherham have conceded more goals than Huddersfield (75).

Ipswich have won 15 home games this season, six more than Huddersfield have won home and away combined.

Since losing 4-3 at home to Leeds in August, Ipswich have won 14 and drawn the other six of their 20 league fixtures at Portman Road.

Huddersfield have won one of their last 11 matches. They have failed to score inside the first half hour in any of their last 17 matches.

Prediction

There will be tension in the air at Portman Road as Ipswich strive to put the finishing touches to a magnificent campaign which they hope is going to end with back-to-back promotions.

Publicidad

A draw at home to Huddersfield is all the Tractor Boys require, but do not expect the home side to either look for that result, or indeed get it.

At home they have been simply superb this season and are unbeaten there since August and consistently in the goals.

They have had far too much for most sides and should have far too much for a Huddersfield team who know their fate, whatever the mathematicians might claim.

They are going down with a whimper – one win in 11 – and with biting words towards much of the squad from coach Andre Breitenreiter following last Saturday’s dour 1-1 draw with Birmingham.

The German’s home truths will not have gone down well in the dressing room and no doubt those same players would love to prove them wrong.

But you get the sense the fight has been sucked out of them after the Birmingham stalemate and they may well lack the stomach to repel the waves of Ipswich attacks that are coming their way.
