Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor is not surprised by Leicester's fine start to the Women's Super League campaign.

While Taylor's side top the table with seven points ahead of Matchday 4, behind them on goal difference are the Foxes and defending champions Chelsea.

Leicester, who found themselves without a point when Willie Kirk became manager last November, have won 4-2 at Bristol City, beaten Everton 1-0 and drawn 1-1 at Manchester United so far this term.

And Taylor, whose team travel to the King Power Stadium on Saturday, said: "I'm not surprised because I think I saw signs of this team performing in the way they are under Willie at the back end of last season.

"Willie took over and he's really put energy and quality into the team and they're a force to be reckoned with at the moment."

City, who finished fourth last season, have opened by beating West Ham 2-0, drawing 1-1 with Chelsea and thumping Bristol City 5-0.

Taylor added: "We're really pleased to be top of the league.

"We're enjoying that moment but we don't see it as a short-term thing — we want to be there.

"We're just taking it game by game and looking forward to Saturday and going into the international break still in that same position."

In quotes posted by Leicester on their official feed on X, formerly known as Twitter, Kirk stressed the need for his side to stamp out slow starts.

He said: "The Man Utd game gives us confidence but there are also points we want to improve on, such as starting the game better.

"The players changed their approach in the second half [against United] and were much better."
