The best ever?

Jamie Carragher believes Erling Haaland has everything he needs to become the greatest player the Premier League has ever seen.

Haaland, 22, has already netted nine times in the top flight since his summer switch to Manchester City, including back-to-back hat-tricks.

And Liverpool legend Carragher is backing the goal machine to get better and better.

The Sky Sports pundit said: "I'm doing City's game on Saturday at Aston Villa and I'm excited to watch him in the flesh, commentate on him for the first time and really get a good look at him off the ball.

"I think we've got something really special that when he's finished his time at Manchester City or the Premier League, we'll be talking about him alongside Thierry Henry.

"This lad could end up being the best player we see in the Premier League.

"He's made a brilliant start, so I'm really excited to see him at the weekend."

Man in the mask

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will miss Chelsea's London derby with West Ham tomorrow — but Thomas Tuchel does not expect his new signing to be out for long.

Aubameyang, 33, joined the Blues from Barcelona late last night and is currently recovering from a fractured jaw sustained during a burglary at his home.

But Tuchel is keen to see him back in action as quickly as possible.

The Chelsea boss said: "We must make sure that he gets a mask, provide him with a mask to protect his jaw.

"So we will start to try with a mask from next week."

Let's be Frank

Frank Lampard was delighted to keep hold of rising star Anthony Gordon

Frank Lampard insists Anthony Gordon never came close to leaving Everton during the summer transfer window.

Rising star Gordon, 21, was the subject of strong interest from Chelsea but Lampard maintained throughout that he wanted the talented winger to remain on Merseyside.

And he got his wish last night when the transfer window slammed shut.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's derby with Liverpool, the Toffees boss said: "It never got close to happening.

"That is great because it has shown where we are coming from and it shows where Anthony is mentally as a player. We move on and we are happy."

We Vill improve

Steven Gerrard is confident deadline day signings Jan Bednarek and Leander Dendoncker can help Aston Villa get back on track.

Villa are stuck in the bottom three having lost four of their opening five Premier League games.

But Gerrard is looking at the positives ahead of his side's home clash with champions Manchester City on Sunday,

He said: "Both players bring vital Premier League experience and international experience. They bring a profile and a stature into the team that I think we need.

"I’m hoping they bring a real positive energy, which is needed at the moment, and hopefully they’ll give the current group some help that is much needed, especially given our recent results."

Gilmour can soar with the Seagulls

Graham Potter insists new signing Billy Gilmour can flourish at Brighton.

The Scotland midfielder, 21, is available to make his debut in Sunday’s home clash with Leicester after joining from Chelsea on a four-year deal yesterday.

And Potter is determined to ensure Gilmour hits the ground running.

The Seagulls boss said: "Billy’s an exciting signing for us, he’s an able footballer and a great character, he has a great personality.

"He’ll fit into the group and add competition in midfield. We’re really pleased to have him here.

"As a footballer, Billy’s very technically able. He benefits from structure and the team functioning well, which is our job.

"If we do that, I think he will have a really good time here."

Happy Hammer

Boss David Moyes is happy with West Ham's summer spending

David Moyes believes West Ham have recruited a squad capable of challenging for European qualification once again.

The Hammers, who finished sixth and seventh in the last two seasons, signed eight new players during the summer transfer window, including £52million club-record buy Lucas Paqueta.

Speaking ahead of his side's visit to London rivals Chelsea tomorrow, Moyes said: "I think we’ve tried to bring in players we really believe can keep us up near the top end.

"We needed the players in. We were short and I think it was always going to be a year where we needed eight new players.

"I think the top clubs have also recruited well. We’re trying to keep up with them, that’s the job."
