The White decision

England boss Gareth Southgate suggested Ben White is available for selection but still chose not to include him in the squad for clashes against Malta and North Macedonia.

The Arsenal defender was initially part of the 2022 World Cup group but he left camp prematurely last November.

When asked about White's availability, Southgate replied: "I assume so. Ben has been very solid for Arsenal.

"He's a different profile of full-back, he's a centre-back playing at full-back really.

"He's behind a couple of options in there, we've got Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James and there a couple of other younger players coming through.

"We're happy with that area of the team."

Two more chances

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes says his side have a "mountain to climb" to reach the knockout stage of the Champions League.

The Red Devils slipped to a 4-3 defeat in Copenhagen on Wednesday evening, with Marcus Rashford's first-half red card inspiring the Danish side to complete a comeback.

Fernandes put United 3-2 ahead from the penalty spot in the second half, before late goals from Lukas Lerager and teenager Roony Bardghji secured a victory to demote Erik ten Hag's side to the bottom of Group A.

The United skipper said: "We have a mountain to climb, so we must climb. We have two games and we have to win those two games.

"Before tonight, our aim already was to win our remaining three games. We couldn't win today. We have to win the next two. You have to win them if you want to stay in the Champions League.

"We have to win against the best, so we have a really tough game away against Galatasaray and after, we play against the top of the group [Bayern Munich]."

Leave of absence

Lyle Foster has scored three Premier League goals this season

Burnley have confirmed striker Lyle Foster has been given an extended leave of absence after reaching out for help with the recurrence of a mental health issue.

The Clarets wrote in a statement: "On behalf of Lyle and his family they have asked us to share with you an update on Lyle's illness.

"Recently, Lyle let us know that he continues to live with issues around his mental well-being and has reached out for help.

"He is currently in the care of specialists — giving him the support and care he needs to help him back to full health.

"With the love and support of his family and everyone at Burnley Football Club we will do all we can to provide everything he needs to get better.

"We ask for your understanding and respect Lyle's privacy around this matter and will not be making any more comment until further notice."

Dinner date

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli were both at the top of their game against Sevilla

Gabriel Martinelli says Bukayo Saka will have to buy him dinner after his brilliant assist in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Sevilla, which leaves them one win from topping their Champions League group.

Saka scored the Gunners' second goal, capitalising on a wonderful through-ball from his colleague — who dribbled past right-back Juanlu a whopping eight times in the match.

Martinelli said: "I told him that he's [Saka] going to have to pay me for dinner! I'm so happy with the win and for his goal as well.

"I think we did well today and we deserved the win. Every game I want the ball as quickly as possible to have the advantage to go and take the full back on one-on-one.

"This is what I like to do and I think the team knows that. Me and Bukayo are good at that and today it's what you want.

"If you go one, two or three times and you beat your opponent, you get more confidence and that's what happened today."

Caught out

Napoli are struggling for form this season

Napoli skipper Giovanni Di Lorenzo was not happy with the goal his side conceded in their surprise 1-1 draw with Union Berlin, who went into the Champions League fixture on the back of 12 consecutive defeats in all competitions.

The Italian champions took the lead through Matteo Politano but were pegged back by a strike from David Datro Fofana, on loan from Chelsea, after the interval.

Di Lorenzo said: "We should've controlled the situation better after taking the lead. We took a corner quickly and were caught out of position.

"It is absolutely not a goal we should be conceding. It was an incident and at this level those little moments make all the difference.

"It is disappointing, especially for our fans, as once again we have been unable to get the victory at home. Now we will do everything we can to achieve qualification."

Rudi Garcia's Napoli are now without a home win in any competition since September 27.

Kane inspiration

Harry Kane is the current leading scorer in Europe's top five leagues

Stuttgart marksman Serhou Guirassy says the arrival of Harry Kane has pushed other strikers in the Bundesliga.

Kane's hat-trick for Bayern Munich away at Borussia Dortmund last Saturday moved him on to 15 goals for the term, one more than Guirassy — who has missed the last two matches with injury.

The Stuttgart forward said: "It's never a good time to be injured but football is like this and life is like this. I'm calm in my head and I'm lucky it's not a more serious injury.

"It's something big to be competing with Kane, who is a world-class striker.

"I think he has pushed a lot of strikers in the Bundesliga to raise their level to try and compete with him."

Kirk wins

Willie Kirk is into his second season as Leicester manager

Leicester boss Willie Kirk has been named Women's Super League Manager of the Month for October.

The Foxes won two and drew two of their opening four fixtures, their best ever start to a WSL campaign.

Kirk said: “I am really proud of the whole group. The start of the season shows you how hard everyone has worked during the summer.

"Any small wins have to be celebrated and we want to create new standards to elevate what we're doing here."

Leicester sit seventh in the WSL table going into this weekend after back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Liverpool.
