Carra criticises Premier League
Jamie Carragher has accused the Premier League of using Everton, after the Merseyside club were docked 10 points for violations of their profit and sustainability rules.
Posting on social media, the ex-Liverpool defender wrote: "The 10 point deduction for Everton is excessive and not right, considering they have been working with the PL about this for the last couple of years.
"Would it have been better to be evasive and try and drag it out like other clubs?
"No doubt relegated clubs will have put big pressure on the PL to deal with Everton but when you consider six clubs tried to leave the PL and there was no sanction at all it doesn't feel right.
"Until other clubs are sanctioned Everton will feel they are being used to show there is no need for an independent regulator and they are right."
The creation of a new independent regulator for football has been proposed by the UK Government.
Jude strikes gold
England midfielder Jude Bellingham has won the 2023 Golden Boy award.
The Real Madrid star was given the honour which is presented each year to the best footballer under the age of 21.
Previous winners include Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. Barcelona and Spain midfielder Gavi was the most recent holder of the award.
After winning the Golden Boy, Bellingham spoke of his plans for the future.
He said: "Now I have this prestigious award I want to keep going.
"I want to keep pushing the limits of my potential and hopefully many more trophies to come."
Diaz provides perfect homecoming for father
Just days after his father was released by kidnappers, Luis Diaz produced a heroic performance to inspire Colombia to a 2-1 win over Brazil.
The Liverpool forward scored both goals for the hosts in their 2026 World Cup qualifier, sending his nation up to third place in the CONMEBOL standings.
His watching father was reduced to tears in the stands. The 58-year-old was held captive for 12 days and only released on Tuesday.
After the game, Diaz said: "I thank God. He makes it all possible.
"We have always lived tough moments but life makes you strong and brave.
"So is soccer and so is life. We deserved this victory."
Camavinga injured on France duty
Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has picked up a knee ligament injury while on international duty with France.
The 21-year-old suffered the setback after colliding with Ousmane Dembele in training on Wednesday, prompting the LaLiga giants to release a statement confirming the news.
It read: "Following tests carried out today on our player Eduardo Camavinga by the Real Madrid medical services, it has been diagnosed that he has torn the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee."
The former Rennes starlet has been a regular in Carlo Ancelotti's side this season, mainly being used in midfield but also featuring as an option at left-back.
He had been in contention to play in France's upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Greece.
It is not known how long Camavinga will be out for, at a time when his Madrid and Les Bleus colleague Aurelien Tchouameni is also out injured.
Haaland injury worry for City
Manchester City could be sweating on the fitness of Erling Haaland, after the striker aggravated a recent injury while on international duty with Norway.
The 23-year-old hurt his ankle having come on as a substitute in the 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands. Norwegian team doctor Ola Sand explained that it was a recurrence of an existing issue.
Sand said: "It was much of the same that happened against Bournemouth a week and a half ago.
"He has had it before too. He gets a slight twist in his ankle, where he is a bit vulnerable. It hurts a lot right away and then it goes away pretty quickly.
"Now he will receive some treatment, then there will be peace and rest and then we will see how he is tomorrow morning. We have already spoken to City."
Norway are due to play Scotland on Sunday. Manchester City's next fixture is on Saturday, November 25 against Liverpool.
Messi praises Bielsa
Lionel Messi heaped praise on Marcelo Bielsa, after his Uruguay team beat Argentina 2-0 in Buenos Aires on Thursday.
The loss snapped the World Cup holders' 14-match winning streak, as the former Leeds manager masterminded an upset.
Messi said: "You can see Bielsa's hand on the way Uruguay is playing.
"In all the national teams or clubs, including Argentina, his style was very recognisable. And he has a good generation of players.
"They are an intense team and it was difficult for us to play our game. They have physical and fast players in the midfield."
Argentina remain top of the qualifying group with 12 points after five games, with Uruguay now two points behind them in second place.
