A tall order

Wout Weghorst believes he has unfinished business in the Premier League after joining Manchester United on loan from Burnley.

The Netherlands international's arrival at Old Trafford was confirmed last week after terminating his loan at Besiktas.

Weghorst joined the Clarets for £12million only 12 months ago but struggled to settle, scoring just twice in 20 appearances as they suffered relegation.

But the towering forward is determined to prove his worth in England as he trained with Erik ten Hag’s in-form Red Devils for the first time today.

Weghorst, 30, said: "Yeah, really [looking forward to being back in the Premier League].

"For me, it was not done, it was not finished. It didn’t work out the first time as I hoped and I’m really hungry to show myself, to help the team.

"Of course, we are on a really good track now.

“The last couple of weeks, months actually, it’s going really positive here and I just want to contribute and give my best and give my all for the club and I try to be a part of the successful [direction] we are going."

Klopp won’t stop

Jurgen Klopp has underlined his commitment to Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has insisted he will not leave Liverpool unless he is forced to amid the Merseyside club’s poor run of form.

A humiliating 3-0 defeat to Brighton last Saturday left the Reds ninth in the Premier League and 10 points off a top-four spot.

The 55-year-old said: "Either the manager's position changes or a lot of other things change.

"So, as far as I am concerned unless someone tells me I will not go."

Liverpool’s transfer policy has become under particular scrutiny and Klopp hinted that there could be wholesale changes at Anfield over the summer.

He added: "That means maybe there is a point where we have to change other stuff. We will see that, but that is something for the future. Like summer or whatever. Not now.

"I have space and time to think about it. We have to play better football now."

Jesse will Marsch on

Jesse Marsch is under pressure as Leeds boss after just two wins in 15 Premier League games

Jesse Marsch believes Leeds can turn their season around with a positive result against Cardiff in the FA Cup tomorrow night.

The Whites have won just two of their last 15 Premier League games, leaving them just two points above the bottom three.

They dominated for large periods against Aston Villa last Friday and were unlucky to lose 2-1, days after needing a late Sonny Perkins equaliser to force a third round replay with Cardiff in a 2-2 draw.

Ahead of that cup encounter at Elland Road, the American coach said: "I feel [the Villa game] was a massive step in the right direction.

"I’m more energised and I’m stronger in my belief that we’re going to be a good team and we’re going to be a good team soon.

"Now we have to show it, specifically tomorrow. We need another complete performance. We need conviction and we need a win. I hate being results based, but that’s where we are."

Dan the man

Nottingham Forest have signed highly-rated midfielder Danilo from Palmeiras

Brazilian midfielder Danilo is excited to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League after signing for Nottingham Forest from Palmeiras.

Danilo has signed a six-and-a-half year deal at the City Ground and becomes Forest’s 24th new arrival since winning promotion back to the Premier League.

The highly-rated 21-year-old is the second player to join the Tricky Trees from Palmeiras in recent weeks after Gustavo Scarpa.

His arrival is seen as a real coup for Forest, who are believed to have beaten some of Europe's top clubs to the youngster's signature.

Danilo said: "I’m really happy to be fulfilling my dream of playing in the Premier League and playing for Nottingham Forest.

"I learnt a bit about the history of the club and saw they had won two European Cups. I spoke to Gustavo Scarpa as well, and he told me that Nottingham is a great city and Forest have a quality squad with really good staff.

"I will show a lot of determination and a strong desire to win and will always look to do my best on the pitch to achieve positive results.

"I’m excited about getting started and meeting my new team-mates."

Steve Cooper's men have picked up seven points in their last three Premier League games and reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Rovers shave heads in support of Anderton

Forty Bristol Rovers players, coaches and other staff have shaved their heads in support of defender Nick Anderton, who is undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with bone cancer last year.

Manager Joey Barton was among those who went under the clippers for the cause.

Anderton, 26, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his femur and underwent an operation in October.

The League One club chose January 16 to go bald in honour of the No16 shirt Anderton wears.

Rovers captain Paul Coutts said: "I just think it shows what everyone thought of Nick around the building.

"He played on pretty much from January last year, I think with what he thought was a sore knee, and it shows what sort of character he was.

"He put his body on the line and helped us get promotion and the great scenes at the end of last season, and what he would give to be back in the dressing room with the lads, we just wanted to show our support to him."

Guilbert departs Villa

Frederic Guilbert has left Aston Villa to join Strasbourg

Frederic Guilbert has left Aston Villa to join Ligue 1 side Strasbourg on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The French right-back arrived at Villa Park from Caen shortly after the Midlands outfit were promoted in 2019 and went on to make 32 appearances.

Having helped Villa survive in their first season back in the top flight, the 28-year-old lost his place in the first team and spent last season on loan at Strasbourg.

His last appearance for Villa came in August 2021 against Barrow in the Carabao Cup second round.
