Gus Poyet admits there is a "possibility" he will be contacted over the Ireland job with his future as Greece boss unclear.

Poyet, 55, has been touted as a potential successor to under-fire Stephen Kenny having guided his current side to an impressive 2-0 win in Dublin last month.

And speaking to LiveScore on behalf of Offers.bet, the Uruguayan confessed he could soon be looking for a fresh challenge.

Poyet explained: "If you talk too much, they blame you but I'm trying to be honest.

"My contract finishes in March. So, finish the [Euro 2024] play-off games and it's over. It doesn't matter if I qualify or not because there is no extension.

"We used to say when you're a player, six months left on your contract and you can start looking for a job.

"Now, that is a possibility that they [Ireland] will like me, that they will contact me. That's a different matter.

"I congratulated them because the atmosphere was spectacular. It was a pleasure. The future will tell."

Gus Poyet enjoyed his time in Ireland

Ireland's hopes of featuring at Euro 2024 in Germany next summer are non-existent, with Kenny's position set to be reviewed later this month.

However, over 41,000 still packed out the Aviva Stadium for the Greece defeat, which left Poyet in awe.

Doubling down on comments he made in his post-match press conference last month, the Chelsea icon — who has steered the 2004 European champions to wins in 10 of his 18 matches in charge — heaped further praise on Ireland's "spectacular" support.

He added: "If you watch Uruguay and you go to a game there, you will see plenty of sky blue shirts.

"But the tracksuit of the national team? I don't remember many of those.

"We left the hotel prior to the game and all the way there, everybody was wearing the black tracksuit. And if not, green, obviously.

"So, to go to that game knowing it was practically impossible for them to qualify and to have that support — me, as a football person, I love it."
