Everton will hope new signing Beto can rejuvenate a season that has got off to a disastrous start. 

The Toffees have lost all three of their Premier League games and are yet to score a goal. 

With their forward line decimated by injuries, the Merseysiders have signed the 25-year-old from Udinese in a deal worth £26million. 

Ahead of Everton's Carabao Cup second-round tie with Doncaster, we take a look at what their new arrival can bring to Sean Dyche's team. 

Dyche verdict

After the new signing was announced, Dyche summed up the reasons behind Everton's move for the Portuguese forward. 

He said: "We have been eager to strengthen our striking options to add more attacking quality to our squad and the arrival of Beto gives us that. 

"He has impressed in a top league like Serie A for the past two seasons and scored goals. 

"As a powerful striker who can carry the ball, hold up play, is strong in the air and works hard for the team, he has a lot of attributes that we hope can see him prove to be a success with Everton." 

Beto was on the Toffees' radar in 2021, only for former manager Rafa Benitez to prioritise the signing of Salomon Rondon. 

He instead moved to Udinese, where he scored 22 times in 65 games for the Italian side. 

Options up top

Everton have been in desperate need for another No9 and Beto looks like an ideal acquisition on a number of levels. 

From a financial perspective, the cash-strapped club have been able to negotiate a deal in which the first payment will be deferred until the next fiscal year. 

On the field, Beto also looks like he will fit the bill for a team that have been struggling without the perennially injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin. 

At 6ft 4in, the powerful new recruit has the physical dimensions needed to provide an alternative to the England striker. 

Dyche now has some strength in depth for the role of target man, with 19-year-old Youssef Chermiti another recently acquired option. 

Yet when it comes to creating chances for his strikers, the Toffees boss still has big issues to contend with. 

Alex Iwobi, Dwight McNeil, Dele Alli and new signing Jack Harrison are all injured, while Demarai Gray looks set to leave the club before the transfer deadline. 

Beto qualities

If Dyche can get some of his more creative players back on the field, then Everton have a chance of climbing the table. 

Arnaut Danjuma played as a striker in the 1-0 home defeat to Wolves on Saturday but will now be able to return to his preferred position on the left of the attack. 

Aside from being a goal threat, Beto has qualities that will allow him to bring others into the game. 

The 25-year-old won 52% of aerial duels last season, drops deep to take possession and is then adept at surging forward with the ball at pace. 

Beto has spoken about what Everton fans can expect to see from him at Goodison Park. 

He said: "I can bring courage, I can bring confidence and I think my biggest thing is effort. 

"I will always bring enthusiasm to the team and to our games. I feel like my style is a really good fit with Everton."
