Hull or draw double chance

The average shelf life of Championship managers seems to be getting shorter and there are two recently installed bosses going head-to-head at the CBS Arena where Frank Lampard’s Coventry are up against Ruben Selles' Hull.

Coventry are off to a mixed start under Lampard, taking four points from three games, and are closer to the drop zone than the play-offs.

However, the need for victories is even greater for basement boys Hull, who drew 1-1 at home to Watford in Selles' first match in the dugout.

The Tigers had slipped to the foot of the table after six successive defeats but they will be hoping for swift improvement under Selles, who impressed on a shoestring budget at League One Reading.

Team news

Coventry have no fresh injuries but top-scorer Haji Wright remains sidelined with a leg injury.

Goalkeeper Ben Wilson (knee) and winger Raphael Borges Rodrigues (leg) are also ruled out. Brandon Thomas-Asante and Ellis Simms came off the bench in Wednesday’s 2-0 loss at West Brom and both are options if Lampard opts for a change of emphasis in attack.

Hull’s squad is stretched by the absences of Dogukan Sinik, Thimothee Lo-Tutala, Andy Smith (all leg), Mohamed Belloumi, Liam Millar (both knee), Carl Rushworth (ankle), and Harvey Cartwright (hand).

The stats

Coventry have kept only one clean sheet in their last seven matches.

The Sky Blues have won just five of their last 26 Championship fixtures.

Publicidad

Three of Coventry’s last six matches have finished 2-2.

Hull have gone 12 games without a victory.

Nine of Hull’s last 11 matches have featured less than three goals.

Four of Hull’s last 10 fixtures have finished 1-1.

Prediction

Hull began life under Selles with a 1-1 draw at home to Watford and they look overpriced to avoid defeat at Coventry.

Selles inherited a team on a six-game losing sequence but he oversaw an energetic midweek performance which probably should have delivered maximum points.

The tenacious Tigers pushed Watford back in the second half by pursuing a high-energy approach and if they can play to a similar standard at Coventry they should cause problems for a side positioned only five points above them.

Coventry were also in action on Wednesday, losing out 2-0 at promotion-chasing West Brom.

They drew 2-2 against Cardiff in their last home game and might have to accept a similar result this weekend.
