West Ham had to settle for a point after failing to find a way past Burnley’s Nick Pope in a goalless draw at Turf Moor.

The East Londoners edged the fixture, registering three shots on target from their 59% possession. 

The Clarets had their best effort through Chris Wood but his header from Dwight McNeil’s early corner was as good as it got. 

Pope was called into action in the 26th minute, keeping out Issa Diop’s close-range header.

Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek both saw efforts go over the crossbar before the England international goalkeeper denied Jarrod Bowen as the match drew to a close. 

David Moyes was ultimately left frustrated and felt his side were deserving of a penalty on a weekend of controversial decisions. 

Craig Dawson was caught by Clarets winger McNeil, but referee Graham Scott did not agree with the appeals and was not instructed to check the VAR monitor. 

Moyes said: "I think this weekend we’ve seen more soft penalty kicks given in the Premier League than we’ve seen all season. 

"If those ones were given, what I saw yesterday, I would have expected this one to be given. 

"But I am an advocate of saying that it has got to be really correct and I’d be surprised if people were saying that yesterday’s penalties were stonewall penalties. 

"I didn’t see it and I thought the game had become harder to get a penalty. 

"I thought today’s was worthy of that [being awarded] if that is the level."

The Hammers have picked up just five points from the last 15 available in the league (one win, two draws, two defeats), this coming after a run of four wins from the five matches beforehand. 

Sean Dyche’s side's tally of just one victory from their opening 15 league games is their lowest tally at this stage of a top-flight season since 1970-71, when the Clarets went on to be relegated. 

The Turf Moor outfit have failed to score in three consecutive Premier League games for the first time since their final three matches of last season. 

Only against Crystal Palace (39) in August have Moyes’ side had more touches in their opponent’s box in a Premier League match this season than their 37 against Burnley.
