New Reading manager Noel Hunt is still looking for his first win following a dismal display in their 3-0 League One defeat at home to Blackpool.

Blackpool deservedly led at the break with well-struck goals from Albie Morgan, in the 24th minute, and Rob Apter eight minutes before the interval.

Reading’s fightback never materialised and impressive Pool rubberstamped their victory through Ash Fletcher in the 72nd minute.

Play-off chasing Royals had been unbeaten in five league matches, including the 1-1 draw at leaders Wycombe last Saturday – Hunt’s first game at the helm after succeeding the departed Ruben Selles.

However, it was the visitors who threatened first at the SCL Stadium, with home keeper Joel Pereira having to make a fine save to deny Apter.

Their attacking endeavours were soon rewarded with two goals in 13 first-half minutes, both due to hesitancy in the Reading defence.

First, Morgan latched on to a huge clearance from Pool keeper Harry Tyrer to beat Pereira with a crisp 20-yard drive.

Then, after Pereira had saved superbly from Fletcher’s point-blank header and with the home rearguard still in disarray, Apter fired home fiercely from inside the area.

Reading attempted a second-half comeback but were slow in their efforts, allowing Fletcher to jab home a Matt Pennington cross from close range to settle matters.
